Addiction Services: Community Alcohol Detox+ Project
Project Overview
The ‘Community Alcohol Detox+’ project will support people with alcohol dependence syndrome, and their families / carers. Following assessment of participants, the project will offer an alcohol detox programme in their community, to those considered ready to detox. This will be followed by post-detox community-led support. Furthermore, a harm reduction programme will be offered to those deemed not ready for detox, by participation in alternative community-based programmes.
The project aims to:
- improve the health and well-being of people experiencing alcohol dependence syndrome, both mental & physical health;
- provide wrap-around/aftercare support & education to help maintain abstinence & recovery after detox/harm reduction programme; and
- provide tailored/personalised support to address societal issues such as loneliness, homelessness, chronic stress, unemployment, poverty and family trauma, all of which are known to impact on health & well-being and contribute to health inequalities.
