PEACEPLUS Community Alcohol Detox+ (CAD+) Project

Addiction Services: Community Alcohol Detox+ Project

Project Overview

The ‘Community Alcohol Detox+’ Project will support and engage with individuals, families and communities impacted by alcohol dependence.

Individuals referred to the project will be considered for an assessment, which will inform if intervention through a community alcohol detoxification or harm reduction programme is appropriate.

Individuals identified as appropriate for a community alcohol detox programme, and their loved ones, will be offered support in preparation for, during and after the detox programme.  This will include regular contact with a member of the team.  This will focus on preparing individuals for their detox programme, support the management of physical withdrawal symptoms, and provide psychological and emotional support throughout and after the detox is completed.

A harm reduction programme will be offered to individuals who do not meet the criteria for community alcohol detox.

The project aims to:

  • improve the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities where their physical and mental health, and social wellbeing is impacted by alcohol dependence;
  • provide wrap-around support and education to enable individuals maintain abstinence from alcohol and promote recovery through a detox or harm reduction programme; and
  • provide person-centred support that will work to help identify and navigate social issues, including but not limited to loneliness, homelessness, chronic stress, unemployment, poverty and family trauma, which can contribute to health inequalities and impact recovery.
